Reframing Domestic Travel Through Storytelling, Discovery, and Brand Experience

Project Lead | Brand & Content Strategy, Narrative Design, UX/UI Design | 2025

Statescations was created as a consumer-facing travel platform and editorial brand designed to challenge how people think about domestic travel in the United States.

Developed as the B2C extension of Overseas Network, the initiative explored how storytelling, curated experiences, strategic partnerships, and digital experiences could transform domestic travel from something often perceived as familiar or predictable into something emotionally engaging, culturally rich, and discovery-driven.

Rather than functioning as a traditional travel website or marketing campaign, Statescations was envisioned as a broader brand and content ecosystem—bringing together destination discovery, editorial storytelling, travel inspiration, partnership engagement, and digital experience design into a unified platform centered around curiosity, exploration, and connection.

My Role

I led the project across both strategic and executional dimensions, helping shape the broader brand, communication, and experience ecosystem from the ground up.

Key areas of contribution included:

  • Brand voice systems / language frameworks

  • Editorial direction / narrative development

  • Website strategy, UX , and visual identity

  • Content strategy and operations

  • Blog and editorial content creation

  • Information hierarchy

  • Campaign ideation and activation planning

The Challenge

Many travelers view international travel as adventurous, enriching, and culturally meaningful, while domestic travel is often perceived as more familiar or routine.

At the same time, the travel industry was competing for attention in an increasingly crowded digital landscape, making it more difficult for destinations, advisors, and travel brands to stand out.

The opportunity wasn't simply to market destinations—it was to reframe how people experienced and thought about domestic travel altogether.

Our central question became:

How might we inspire people to see the United States as a place of discovery, culture, adventure, and meaningful experiences while creating a platform capable of serving travelers, advisors, tourism partners, and hospitality brands simultaneously?

The Movement

Statescations was always intended to be more than a travel brand or content platform. It became a movement focused on reframing domestic travel through a more narrative-driven lens—emphasizing overlooked experiences, local stories, regional identity, insider knowledge, and authentic cultural moments rather than generic tourism marketing.

The goal was to position travel not simply as a matter of booking logistics, but as a more emotional, human-centered experience of discovery, culture, identity, and connection to place.

The broader strategic direction centered around positioning Statescations as both:

  • A trusted insider voice within the travel industry

  • A culturally engaging lifestyle and discovery platform for travelers themselves

The Experience

The experience was designed to feel less like a booking platform and more like a source of inspiration and discovery.

Through destination stories, editorial features, insider perspectives, curated itineraries, and travel ideas organized around passions and interests, Statescations encouraged people to see familiar places through a different lens.

Visitors could explore experiences ranging from ranch stays and wellness retreats to national parks, hidden urban discoveries, luxury escapes, outdoor adventures, and unique regional experiences they might never have considered otherwise.

At its core, the experience was designed to spark curiosity and help people realize that some of the most memorable adventures may exist much closer to home than they think.

Reflection

More than anything, the project reinforced my belief that strong brands are built through the experiences, stories, relationships, and perceptions they create over time. The most successful brands don't simply communicate value—they help people see familiar things in new ways and create meaningful connections between people, places, ideas, and experiences.
